Grandad Remembers

Through the sharing of stories, life events can be captured and preserved, and important messages can be shared. Stories build bridges between generations.

The stories in this book have been compiled for my grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to give them some idea of how things were in ‘The Good Old Days’.

In the mid 1970s I started to compile a family history, several years after my father’s death. When I began to record the facts about my dad, I thought, “I wish the old bugger had written something about his life’s experiences”. Hence this book, to record some of mine.

The stories are in no particular order. My aim has been to create a picture in words: each story is a brush stroke, and many brush strokes make up the whole picture. They vary in length. Some are humorous, some are reminiscences of times gone by, and now and then the reader may find one of a more serious nature. Some of the jokes are not original, but I think they are worth repeating.

I hope the stories touch the hearts of readers and inspire them to greater things, and a life well lived.
