Walter and Family

In this book I have tried to describe the living conditions, happenings and personalities of the Smiths, a family of nine living on a farm in the 1920s. As the story progresses, it takes in four other families: the Roberts, the Blakes, the Beechers and the Johnsons.

The events, situations and personalities are based on some of my personal experiences, but mostly on my imagination.

This book is basically a historical romance novel in verse. I recommend reading the poems in order from first to last, and using your imagination. Had I written this story as a novel, I could have been more descriptive. In verse that is not possible, so it is up to the reader to read between the lines and interpret what I have written.

To the reader of today: please bear in mind that the attitudes and customs of those times, shortly after the First World War, particularly with respect to native wildlife, were entirely different from today’s thinking.
